Phan

Phan is a Vietnamese surname representing the local form of the Chinese Pan 2. The character 潘 (Sino-Vietnamese phan) originally referred to an ancient river in China that flowed into the Han River, as well as the concept of “water in which rice has been rinsed.” The name became a common clan name in Chinese history before being imported to Vietnam through centuries of cultural and administrative contact.
